Dangerous Product Recalls during the Week of August 18, 2014

Recent Bean Bag Chair Recall Requires attention of Pinellas County residents

American consumers should be informed about the products they are purchasing.  Manufacturers can make mistakes and sell defective products to the public, thus endangering the entire market they targeted when advertising the launch of their product. A great source of information where Americans can visit and find information on defective products is the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. A great feature their website has is a regularly updated list of the most recent products recalled. As product liability attorneys, we feel the general public should be made aware of any unsafe products they are using. The following is a list of recalls made this week.

RECENT RECALLS FROM THE WEEK OF AUGUST 18-22
  • Ace Bayou Corporation bean bag chairs: After a 13-year-old boy from Texas and a 3-year-old girl from Kentucky were found dead from suffocation inside of the bean bag chairs, Ace Bayou Corporation recalled over 2 million of their bean bag chairs. It was discovered that the zippers on the bean bags could be opened and allow children to crawl inside. Most bean bags have closed and permanently disabled zippers for this very reason. The beanbags were sold at Amazon.com, Walmart, and Walmart.com. They have “ACE BAYOU CORP” on the tag. Consumers should check and make sure that are no zippers able to be unzipped on their bean bags.
  • Atwood Kayak and Watersports storage hanger: Atwood Corporation has recalled about 10,000 units of their Kayak and Watersports storage hanger after it was discovered that the length adjustment buckles on the straps can become undone unexpectedly. This can result in the item being hung and stored to fall and injure anyone standing nearby. Consumers need to immediately top using this product and contact Atwood Corporation about their refund policy.

Parents of have purchased the crib are advised to find alternate sleeping situations for their child immediately and contact Bexco for a free repair kit.
  • Brita Children’s Water Bottles: Popular water bottle company Brita has recalled over 200,000 of their hard-sided water filter bottle for kids.
